What is a hard drive and how are files lost?
A hard drive is a "non-volatile" storage space designed to hold data. The data is stored on a magnetic surface which is called a hard disk platter. Data can be lost from the hard drive for many reasons, including the mechanics of the hard drive itself, and external problems. Most hard drives today have several moving parts which need to be carefully synchronized in order to maintain a constant spin rate, called RPM, inside your computer.

Data recovery is the process of retrieving files that have been lost or deleted which were stored on magnetic disks and hard drives. Data recovery programs and services are made to retrieve your files that have been lost due to computer crash or viral infection.
